Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital was doing Permanent pacemaker implantation primary PCI (Percutaneous coronary intervention) for patients with heart block and heart attack respectively with its own cardiologists since 2016. Hundreds of patients were benefited from this service.
Following the war Ayder Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) has been unable to treat patients with Heart Block (Third Degree AV-Block) for more than two years due to the lack of consumables for permanent as well as temporary Pace maker implantation devices for more than two years.
Among other patients, a 45 year old female Bank Employee with complete heart block (heart rate of 30 Beats per minute) has been suffering from repeated attacks of loss of consciousness /brief episodes of cardiac arrest with asystole/ for the past two years. Luckily she is still alive but is at risk of sudden death due to this easily treatable cardiac disease.
Ayder badly needs consumables for Pacemaker Implantation in addition to other consumables in parallel with the restoration of the severe shortage of basic cardiovascular drugs including medications for heart failure, hypertension, Ischemic heart disease and even Benzathine Penicillin for Rheumatic Heart Disease.
